First
time seen in the USA, these unique small vessels make up the
Tiny Treasures collection. In olden days they would have been
used for peppers and spices. What will you use them for? Yes,
they are all cleanly turned inside as well. The tops come off
those that have tops.. and fit perfectly otherwise. Each one
a story in itself, with a hand written card by the master woodturner,
detailing the wood used, with both traditional and botanical
names. All in rare hardwoods from the southern coast of Africa.
The smallest item with the pointy top (front right) has a diameter
smaller than a quarter. Yet it is strong, unique and can contain
something.
Carpenters
usually avoid knots and burls, as they make woodwork difficult.
Instead here you see Dave Stephenson thriving on the challenge
and unique wood grains and patterns seen in such pieces. Especially
becuase these are tiny pieces to be working with a lathe. All
from the greater Knysna area of South Africa, in the heart of
the Cape Garden Route and home to exotic hardwoods. Every piece
individually numbered and marked by the author. Only one of
each. A different pattern on most of them every time you turn
it slightly. Start your collection today.

Wild Olive vessel and lid
The
legend of Africa lives on through these very affordable
copper bracelets. Five strands of copper all around, with
tight, flat neat knots so they won't catch on your silk
shirt or smart jacket. Polish them gently every so often,
or let the natural copper patina slowly change to a darker
shade.
Total
height is only 2". Diameter is 1.25".

Red
Ivory urn
Also
known as Pink Ivory, this wood is listed commercially as
one of the rarest and most expensive in the world. In traditional
Zulu culture, the wood is only used by members of their royal
family, as declared by King Chaka, The neck and shoulder
inserts are turned from African Black Wood. Extremely fine
grain.
Yes,
it is completely hollowed out! 2.5" tall, and almost
1.5" at widest.
Note:
Ivory is part of the name. No real ivory from elephants
involved.. as we patiently explained to import customs!

Wild
Olive cup
S. A.
tree number 617. A small to medium evergreen tree that occurs
throughout the country, in rocky hillsides and near streams.
This piece of Wild Olive has such fine small markings in
it that only a small wood piece will display this grain
to its best advantage.
2."
tall, and almost 1.25" at widest. As smooth and clean
inside as it is outside. Shell only 1/16" thick but
still very strong.

Wild
Olive Vessel
This
little vessel was turned from a piece of Wild Olive Burr.
The cause of a burr is unknown and there are many theories
that abound. This is only the second time, in all of the
artist's yeas of wood turning that he has seen a burr on
wild olive. The markings caused by the burr are so fine
that they need to be seen on a small piece to be appreciated.
Looks very different from different sides.
2.5"
tall, and almost 1.75" at widest. As smooth and clean
inside as it is outside. Shell a 1/4" thick.. giving
this piece a relatively stronger heavier feel

Wild
Olive Urn
S. A.
Tree No. 617. One of the most widely distributed species
in South Africa, common in the comparatively treeless Orange
Free State. Considered by some to be the ancestor of the
cultivated olive.
Much
used for fencing and carved sticks. This little urn has
been turned from a burr, a very rare occurence on Wild Olive.
The burr is the reason for the tiny swirls and dots in the
exquisite figuring on this piece.
2.75"
tall, and almost 1.25" at widest. Incredibly fine lip,
yet still in perfect shape with no nicks or marks.
